BIXBY – Grove wrestlers Zach Housely and Weston Culvey participated in wrestling at the All-State Games on Tuesday.
Wrestling for the large school East squad, the duo was on the wrong end of the score as the West took the match 30-19.
Housely, however, provided on of the highlights for the East as he defeated Josh Kennedy of Norman North. The OU signee never trailed as he posted a solid 5-0 decision in the 125-pound bout.
Things did not go as well for Culvey, who was replacing Muskogee’s Quincy Mondaine.
Culvey was pinned by Oklahoma City Northwest’s Mike Anderson in 47 seconds in the 215-pound matchup.
Mondaine, who has also signed with OU, withdrew because of college commitments.
In basketball action on Wednesday evening Jay's Hannah Ritter scored eight points, including a three that cut the West's lead to three with five minutes left in the game, but her East squad came up on the short end of a 53-50 final in the large school game.
The East led by as much as 11 in the third quarter, but a 16-0 run by the West turned the tide in their favor. Two free throws by Anadarko's Ronay English with 20 seconds left sealed the win.
Coweta's Katy Harsen and Ponca City's Mica Havens led the East with nine points apiece.
The All State Games will wrap up tonight with the football game. No Delaware County athletes are currently scheduled to participate.
