The Fairland Lady Owls softball team suffered a 7-5 setback to Ketchum last week as the club begins to prepare for post-season district play.

The Lady Owls will travel to Vinita Tuesday for an afternoon date with the Lady Hornets before they enter into battle with Oklahoma Union in first and second round district competition.

Fairland’s game with Ketchum was a hit, literally, with the teams combining for 22 shots in the seven-inning contest.

The Lady Owls took the early lead with a Courtney Summers RBI in the bottom of the first.

Ketchum posted a run in the top of the second but the Lady Owls broke the tie in the bottom of the frame with a two-hit, two-run effort. Kayla Kowal hit a double that plated Katie Schubert and a single from Ashlee Davis brought Kowal in.

The top of the fourth saw Ketchum pull away. Four hits from the Lady Warrior bats, combined with three Fairland errors, gave Ketchum five runs and a 6-3 lead.

The Lady Owls took advantage of two Ketchum errors in the bottom of the inning to post a Paige Mowery run and close the gap to two.

The teams traded runs in the fifth for what would be the final runs of the game. Ketchum scored a run on a passed ball while Fairland’s Schubert touched home plate after a bases loaded walk of teammate Kowal.

Kortney Kowal was the starting pitcher in the game for Fairland. The Lady Owl ace delivered five strikeouts on the evening.

Kayla Kowal went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and a run.

Davis finished 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI.

Schubert went 2 for 3 with two runs.

Summers had an RBI while batting 2 for 3.

Hutchison went 2 for 4 at the plate.

The Lady Owls district contest with Oklahoma Union will feature a double header on Thursday in Fairland with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM. Game three, if necessary, will be on Friday at 3:00 PM.
