The Jay Bulldogs football team improved their 2008 mark to 2-1 Friday with a road win over the Pryor Tigers.
Jay took advantage of two early Tiger miscues to build a lead that they would never relinquish.
A first quarter Pryor fumble, on the Tiger side of the field, led to the Bulldogs first score when quarterback Brandon Edge found John Davenport for a five-yard touchdown reception.
The ensuing Tiger drive saw Pryor go three and out. Forced to punt from their own end zone, the Tiger snap sailed over the punterís head and the Bulldogs landed on the loose ball for their second touchdown of the evening.
Jay put up a second quarter field goal off a 42-yard boot from Casey Loomis.
The Bulldogs scored their third touchdown of the half with less than a minute to go in the second quarter when Loomis pulled in a 5-yard touchdown reception from Edge. It all amounted to a Jay 24-0 halftime lead.
The Tigers scored their only points of the game in the third quarter. The drive began with a recovery of a Jay fumble in Bulldog territory. Pryor worked their way out of a 3rd and 11 situation on the march to eventually see Treyvon Cunningham score from four yards out.
The Bulldog offense flexed some muscle in the final period. Quarterback Edge completed a 59-yard touchdown bomb to Josh Ramsey to make the 31-7 final.
Jay begins 4A District 3 play this Friday with a homecoming battle against Vinita. The Hornets, 2-1, posted a 19-13 win Friday at Dewey and opened their season with a 33-14 win, at Vinita, over Pryor.
Kickoff for Fridayís game is set for 7:30 PM.
