The only one Nationwide on inland waters, The Grand Lake Sailing Club (GLSC) will host its 37th Long Distance Classic on Grand Lake the weekend of September 18 and 19, 2010. All other nationwide sails are on oceans and gulf waters. Assisting the GLSC members is the Grand Lake Sail & Power Squadron of Grove, providing the area boats four water locations.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 18, sailboats begin the 100-mile, 24-hour Classic on a set course including sails from the Peninsula (formerly Shangri La) The course includes sailing on a set course to the Pensacola Dam, Main gate at Shangri La, Tera Miranda and Goat Island.
Skippers will check in on Friday, September 17 at the Grand Lake Sailing Club at 31700 S. 605 Rd. in Grove.
It will open at noon with the club’s famous steak dinner beginning at 5 p.m. If others can’t make the 5 p.m. time frame, other arrangements can be made.
A 50-mile, 24-Hour race is also held for smaller sailboats.
The Long Distance Classic is open to the public for entering the event as well as eating with us.
Saturday’s Classic Schedule:
7 a.m. Continental breakfast opens
9 a.m. Skipper’s meeting meets on the deck
10 a.m. Classic STARTS!
10 a.m. Hot breakfast
Boat & Skipper $25 Payment deadline: September 5, 2010
Boat & Skipper after deadline: $30
Crew: $5 per person (If you need crew, please advice as crew volunteers are available)
Friday dinner: $15 per person
Sunday Continental Breakfast: $5 per person
T-Shirt (Short sleeve): $15
The Long Distance Classic and Friday’s dinner are open to the public.
Motels are within a 1-2 miles from the GLSC and camping site and limited dock space are available at the club.
