William Floyd “Bill” Newberry passed from this life on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the hospital in Orlando, Florida. He was 70 years old.
Bill was born in Woodward, Okla. on December 5, 1939 to Floyd and Lillie Newberry. He moved to Miami, Okla. in 1949. He graduated in 1958 from Miami High School. He then attended N.E.O. College. He worked in his parents’ business, Newberry Builders’ Supply, during his school years. Bill was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Okla. for over thirty years until his retirement. He was a technical writer, illustrator, and a computer systems analyst. While working for Phillips, his biography was featured in the 1991 volume of “Who’s Who in the Business World.” Bill served 2 years in the U.S. Army.
Bill is survived by Melanie and her husband Brad Hudelson of Bixby, Okla.; Melissa and husband Mark Willis of Bixby, Okla.; Brian and wife Erica Newberry of Seattle, Wash.; and Cathy and husband Andy Burns of Claremore, Okla. Bill has eight grandsons and four granddaughters. Bill has one sister, Lynda N. Roten, of Miami, Okla. and a nephew David and wife Carisa Roten of Claremore, Okla. and their two children.
Bill was preceded in death by one brother, Tom, in 1969 and their parents.
Bill was a Christian, being saved and baptized as a young boy, and he attended Miami’s First Baptist Church while growing up.
Graveside services are pending at G.A.R. Cemetery.
The family has chosen Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home with their services.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be given to Missions at First Baptist Church of Miami.
