WELCH — A Craig County couple was found shot to death in their rural home near Welch, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said.
William Huls, 67, and Leota Huls, 66, were discovered Sunday in their home, which is about four miles from the Kansas state line.
Craig County Sheriff Jimmie Sooter said there was no forced entry into the house, but Leota Huls’ black purse was missing.
"We are looking at this as a robbery,” Sooter said. "Leota Huls was carrying cash in her purse.”
Sooter didn’t say how much cash was missing.
The Huls’ Sunday routine was to go to church, he said. A neighbor found the couple still wearing their bedclothes, Sooter said.
William Huls was ill, and Leota Huls was his caretaker, he said.
"There was a strong sense of family,” said Winston Conner II, a Grand Lake attorney, referring to the Huls family. "She was the sweetest person you could ever meet.”
Conner represented the Huls’ son, William Travis Huls, 39, who is serving a five-year sentence at the Jess Dunn Correctional Center in Taft for indecent proposal to a child and lewd molestation.
Sooter said authorities have no suspects in the deaths of the Huls.
