GROVE — Despite the downturn in the economy, the amount of the sales and use tax distribution rose slightly in May for the city of Grove, according to statistics released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

Sales tax collected from the city’s 3.4 percent sales tax between March 16th to March 31st and estimated sales from April 1st to April 15th resulted in a $499,362.10 distribution from the state, a small increase from $489,297.24 the city received in March through April of last year. Grove’s city use tax rose from $27,831.44 to $42,111.87.

Delaware County as a whole saw an increase in the monthly distribution as well. The county’s one percent sales tax netted a monthly distribution of $234,263.95 compared to $220,020.17 received by the county for the same period last year.

The monthly distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commissioner primarily represents local tax receipts reported.

Monies received by cities and counties from sales tax help fund capital improvements.

This May, the state distributed $106,467,269 in sales tax collections to 505 cities and towns. That amount was a decrease of $3,555,651 from the $110,022,920 distributed to 504 cities and towns in May last year.

A use tax collected on outside sales resulted in a May disbursement of $8,133,352 shared by 348 cities and towns.

In county returns, 75 counties shared in a $21,320,181 sales tax disbursement. A use tax disbursement of $1,813,926 was distributed between 66 counties.
