GROVE - Four of Grove High School’s athletic competitors have been recognized as the best of the best in both the classroom and on the playing field. The athletes were recognized in a video released on Tuesday, May 12, on the Grove Public Schools Facebook page.
“Due to COVID-19 it has been unfortunate for our kids that they don’t get to have the true awards assembly where they get to be recognized. We want to do whatever we can to recognize them for all of the hard work that they put in,” said Grove Athletic Director Richard Bassett.
Male Scholar Athlete of the Year - Dakota Rickey
Rickey is GHS’ Valedictorian for the Class of 2020 and ran on the cross country and track teams.
Female Scholar Athlete of the Year - Anastasia Pace
Pace has been a solid competitor on both GHS’ softball team and the track team, competing at in the hurdle events.
Male Athlete of the Year - Anthony Lucky
Lucky is a three sport athlete who led GHS’ defense in Football, wrestled and was a two-time State pole vault finalist.
Female Athlete of the Year - Elizabeth Cash
Cash has aided GHS’ softball team into the post-season and basketball team to the State tournament.
“When you do athletics and still keep a great grade point average, that’s a lot of work, especially for our scholar athletes who have achieved such a high level in the classroom as well as on the athletic playing field,” said Bassett. “I just want to congratulate all four of these young men and women and appreciate all the hard work they did for Grove Public Schools and hope they do well in the future.”
