GROVE - The Grove High School Class of 2020 has had an unforgettable senior year with the unique situation posed by the COVID-19 quarantine. The students have shown adaptability and grace under pressure as they have finished the school year via distance learning.

Graduation GHS Class of 2020

Grove Public School's graduation date for the Class of 2020 will be held in the evening at Ridgerunner Stadium and is pending between June 19 or July 10. The school released this statement on April 15, 2020:

"We will hold it on the first date we can while abiding by the guidelines from the City of Grove, State of Oklahoma and the CDC. As we get closer to these dates we will communicate the final decision."

Here are the top two students at GHS:

Dakota Rickey, Valedictorian

Rickey is the son of Steven Stogner and Alissa Rickey. He has been involved with the Integris Hospital Board, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Math Club, Track and Field, Cross Country and RYLA.

“My extracurriculars helped teach me the value of community service and the importance of hard work and dedication,” said Rickey.

Rickey plans to attend the University of Tulsa and enter the accelerated business or law program.

“I chose business and law as a major because I am very interested in our system of government and the constitution that frames it,” said Rickey.

His favorite high school memory is the bus rides to and from track meets and all of the team bonding that happens on the bus.

Rickey says that his valedictorian speech is a surprise and thanks all of those who have supported him academically.

“Thank you to all the people who supported me on my academic journey. I couldn’t have done it without you,” said Rickey.

Elora Carder, Salutatorian

Carder is the daughter of Jaime and Kevin Carder. She has been involved in Drama, Spanish Club, Math Club, Interact Club, Character Counts, National Honor Society, Academic Team and the Safety Committee.

“The activities I was involved in allowed me to grown into who I wanted to be. Most of the activities were community serviced based and i was able to give back, which only built upon my character and everyone involved,” said Carder.

Carder plans to major in psychology and pursue a doctorate in the field.

“I chose psychology because I want to give my life to helping others. Mental health is one of the most important issues within our society,” said Carder.

Her favorite high school memories are the rehearsals of GHS’ production of Beauty and the Beast.

“On days when most of the cast was missing, we would just play the music tracks and everyone would play a different role. It was amazing,” said Carder.

Carder says her speech will be about the great moments and memories she has with her classmates, since the Class of 2020’s senior year was cut short.
