“Behold it’s time to go outside…fishing is upon us!”

I believe bass fishing is ready to explode on Grand Lake if you look at these pictures of last week’s results. These fish were all caught on the Grand River chain. Giddy Up.

Recent rain caused the lake to rise and get a bit muddy. Perfect for spawning fish, and take away the tournament pressure due to the recent health situation, you just couldn’t ask for a better scenario. Water temperature is in the mid 50’s and will continue to warm especially with the muddy water and warmer air. Lake levels hopefully will remain constant around 746’, and perhaps rise a bit if we get more rain.

Black bass fishing is excellent right now and will stay this way for another 2-3 weeks. Go shallow and don’t let the wind or water color deter your efforts. Grand has always been a spinner bait lake and I assure you I have one, or maybe 2 tied on. Remember north and east for better fishing. Crappie continue to bite in deeper water on jigs around brush. My recommendation is to hire a guide for best success. Stop by The Grand Lake Sports Center or Honey Creek Outdoors for more angling information. The dock bite seems to have waned for the time being and I have not heard of a shallow bank bite. White bass were biting around the Honey Creek and Elk River bridges before the rain and muddy water, but since then they have quit. I did get reports catfish and spoonbill fishing continues to produce in the rivers.

Until next time, keep your bait in the water. Clint Baranowski
