GROVE - The Lady Red basketball team has won the 2020 Regional title and will move on to the Area Tournament on Friday, March 6.

The Regional Tournament pitted Grove against Holland Hall and Vinita, resulting in two more wins for the team. The Lady Red’s record is now 22-3

Grove 60, Holland Hall 33

The Lady Red hosted the first round of Regional play and took the early lead scoring 20 points in the first quarter. Those points were spread across five players: Dawn Blake, Rory Geer, Mikalle Pair, Elizabeth Cash and Kolby Boyett. The domination would continue on the defensive side of the ball where the Lady Red held the Lady Dutch to a mere three points, one jumper and a single free-throw.

In the second, Holland Hall woke up and scored 13 points. The Lady Dutch outscored Grove by one point, but the halftime score was 32-16, in favor of the Lady Red.

The third quarter saw Grove continue in the double digit points with 13 added to the board, while holding the Lady Dutch to six. The Lady Red led 45-22.

In the final quarter of play, Grove scored their second highest quarter of the game with 15. The Lady Red primarily scored via layups and free throws. On the opposite side of the ball, Holland Hall’s shooting guard caught fire and hit three threes in an attempt to catch the Lady Red. It was to no avail and Grove took home the win 60-33.

Boyett led the Lady Red with 19, followed by Geer with 16, Cash with 11, Pair and Megan Gibbs both had five and Blake had four.

Grove 54, Vinita 39

The Lady Red continued Regional play against the Vinita Lady Hornets in Mannford on Saturday, February 29. Grove outscored the Lady Hornets 15-11 in the first, but the game would be close throughout all 32 minutes of play.

In the second quarter, the Lady Red would step up defensively and hold Vinita to five points, while scoring ten of their own. The halftime score stood 25-16.

The Lady Hornets came out with a fury in the third, scoring 15 points, but the Lady Red kept it close with 12. The third quarter ended 37-31, in favor of Grove.

The final quarter was when the Lady Red put the game away. Grove scored 17 points and held the Lady Hornets to eight, winning the game and the title of Regional Champion 54-39.

The Lady Red will play Fort Gibson on Friday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in Skiatook. The winner will continue on to the State Tournament.
