Jonalou Pinnell, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 14, 2020. She was born on March 13, 1926 in Iowa City, Iowa to her parents, Levi DeLong Mercer and Myrtle “Eva” Morgan Mercer. Jonalou

lived in Wichita, Kansas the majority of her life. She graduated from East High School, Wichita, Kansas in 1946. She worked various jobs as bookkeeper and legal secretary. Jonalou was Executive Secretary for the Sedgwick County Law Library and Wichita Bar Association from October 1965 – June 1985. Law was really her true passion. After her “1st” retirement she became a volunteer as Chairman of the Service to the Bar Committee to assist in closing out files for attorneys that became unable to continue practicing for whatever reason. Her “2nd” retirement, came about in 1999 and in 2001 moved to Grove, Oklahoma where she could live on the lake and golf course. Golfing being her favorite past time. Her most prestigious award given was the Honorary Member of the Kansas Bar Association, the first non-attorney ever awarded that at that particular time. She volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at Integris Hospital, Grove, Oklahoma and was a member of the First Christian Church in Grove, Oklahoma. Here are some of Jonalou’s accomplishments, memberships, honors, and accolades throughout her life. She was a Life Member of the Wichita Bar Association, Associate Member of the American Bar Association, Life Member of Wichita State University Alumni Association, Member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, President of Cherokee Ladies’ Gold Association and on the Orpheum Theatre Restoration Board, Wichita, Kansas from 1987-89. Her awards and honors include: 1975 - Appreciation Award from Wichita Legal Secretaries, 1979 – Appreciation Award from Legal Secretaries Advanced Training Class, 1981 – Devotion to Duty Award from Wichita Bar Association,

1982 – American Bar Association Award for Devotion of Duty, 1982 – Distinguished Service Award Wichita Bar Association, 1984 – Jonalou Pinnell Award named and awarded in her Honor annually by the Wichita Bar Association, 1985 – Matrix Honoree from Women in Communication. Jonalou’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2 p.m., First Christian Church, 102 W. 4th St, Grove, Oklahoma with Chaplain Cerita Tweed Officiating. Jonalou’s service will conclude at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Physician’s Choice Hospice, 14324 N.
