GLENPOOL - The Ridgerunner basketball team were unable to come away with a win against the Glenpool Warriors on Valentine’s Day, falling by a score of 43-31.

The loss puts the Ridgerunners season record at 8-14 with one regular season game remaining.

The Friday night game started slowly with both teams trading several scoreless possessions before the Ridgerunners broke through.

Emmanuel Crawford caught a pass from Greg McCurdy at the high post before he took one dribble to the middle of the lane and pulled up for a 15-foot jumper and a 2-0 Ridgerunner lead. Aason Cross had the next Ridgerunner basket putting them up 4-0.

Glenpool continued to pack their 3-2 zone tight, to the key with ball pressure. The Warriors really over played the high post trying to keep the Ridgerunners out of the paint at all costs forcing Grove to shoot the ball from the outside. With just over 3 minutes left in the first quarter and a 4-3 score, Cross was able to penetrate the zone driving to the high post. The post defender moved up the lane to help leaving Corbin Beal all alone for two-points.

Glenpool drilled a three-point shot on the next possession to tie the game at 6-6. On their very next possession, Grove again got a paint touch that resulted in a score. This time, Beal caught the ball at the left elbow, looked to pass, and while the defense overplayed the passing lanes, pulled up and hit the elbow shot for two more points and an 8-6 Ridgerunner lead.

Grove extended that lead to four points when Beal again got the ball at the high post, drew the defense to him, and hit McCurdy for his first two points of the game. McCurdy was fouled on the next possession and made both free throws. The 12-8 Ridgerunner lead at the end of the first quarter was already more than one-third of the points they would score on the night.

As the slow paced, mythodical game continued, Grove continued to press to offensive. Cross hit a three-pointer with 6:08 left on the clock giving the Ridgerunners a 15-8 lead. As play continued, Glenpool hit a couple of three-pointers and went on an 8-0 run to get back into the game and even take a brief lead before halftime. As the clock was expiring on the first half, Beal threw up a deep three and made it giving the Ridgerunners an 18-17 half time lead.

The second half did not go Grove's way as the team struggled to take care of the ball and earn second chances in possessions. The Ridgerunners were outscored 26-13 after halftime, falling by a score of 43-31.

Beal finished with four three-pointers made and a total of 17 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots. McCurdy finished with 5 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal. Cross finished with 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. Crawford had 4 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. Colin Rowton had 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Hank Hacker had 1 rebound and 1 assist.

The Ridgerunners played their final regular season game on Monday, February 17 at Claremore. The team will begin District play against the Miami Wardogs on Friday, February 21 at 8 p.m.
