TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Lady Red basketball team took down another powerhouse in Class 5A on Friday night winning at fifth-ranked Tahlequah 47-37.
The Lady Red and Lady Tigers went back and forth in the first half before the Lady Red were able to take control. The Lady Red gave up just 10 points in the second half. Grove is now 13-3 on the season.

The game started off with a quick trade off of high-low buckets. Both teams got the ball inside to their high post who was able to dump it over the remaining defense to find their low post player for two points.
In the case of the Lady Red, it was Elizabeth Cash finding Kolby Boyett for the points. Boyett ended up with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
Rory Geer had the next basket for the Lady Red again thanks to the passing of Cash. Cash caught the ball in the short corner on the left side and threw a baseline bounce pass to Geer on the opposite block who added two points for the Lady Red. Cash only had three assists on the night but she tallied two on the first two Lady Red possessions. Geer led the Lady Red in scoring, putting up 15 points. Geer also had 2 assists and 2 steals.
Grove found themselves down by two points at halftime. The score was 27-25. The second half was a strong defensive showing for the Lady Red as they held Tahlequah to just 3-15 from the floor. They accomplished this with their active zone defense really focusing on taking away the Tahlequah high post and taking away the zone overload principle.
The Lady Red outscored the Lady Tigers by 12 in the second half securing their 10-point victory. The Lady Red dominated the game inside scoring 32 points in the paint. The only two points Tahlequah scored in the paint were those two described on their first possession of the game.
Mikalle Pair finished the game with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Cash also had 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Dawn Blake had 2 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Baylee Gregg had 1 steal while Anna Bacon did not accrue any counting stats in 6 minutes of game time.
The Lady Red get back into action on Tuesday, February 4 when they host Collinsville at 6 p.m.
