JAY, Okla. - The 22nd Annual Tri-State Classic was held in the Bulldog Arena on January 23, 24 and 25 with a total of nine schools participating.
The girl’s tournament had schools from Jay (host), Kansas, Grove, Tahlequah, Seneca, MO, Coffeeville, KS, Locust Grove and Lincoln Christian in Tulsa.
Kansas Lady Comets
The Kansas Lady Comets defeated the Seneca Lady 60–48 in their first game, but lost to the Tahlequah Sequoyah Lady Indians 74-19 in the second round.
Disappointingly, the Lady Comets finished the tourney losing to the Locust Grove Pirates 56-29 on January 25, to finish in fourth place in the girl’s tourney.
The Lady Comets hosted Chouteau-Maize on Tuesday, January 28 and will host Claremore Sequoyah at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 31.
Jay Lady Bulldogs
The Jay Lady Bulldogs were defeated 54-24in their opening game with the Grove Lady Red on Thursday, January 23 and again defeated by the Lincoln Christian Bulldogs, this time 51-25 on Friday, January 24.
Jay came back to beat Coffeeville on Saturday, January 25, to take home 7th place in the girl’s tourney.
The Lady Bulldogs hosted Miami on Tuesday, January 28 and will host the Vinita Lady Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 31.
Grove Lady Red
The Grove Lady Red won their games on Thursday against Jay and Friday against Locust Grove, but fell to a dominant Sequoyah Lady Indians 61-36, who maintained a full court press for the whole game against the Lady Ridgerunners.
The Tahlequah Sequoyah Lady Indians secured their place as the Lady’s Tri-State Champions and the Grove Lady Ridgerunners in second place.
The Lady Red played at Coweta on Tuesday, January 28 and will be on the road Friday, January 31 at 6 p.m. in Tahlequah.
