The Grove Ridgerunners have a tough schedule this season, with the game against the Glenpool Warriors proving to be just a bit much for the team to handle.

The Friday, January 17 game saw Grove keep the game close in the first half, but the team struggled offensively after halftime. Glenpool's height and a closely called game ended the Ridgerunner's hope of a win. Grove is now 2-8 on the season.

Glenpool 63, Grove 49

The Ridgerunners scored first, almost a minute into the game, with a two-pointer from Aason Cross. Cross then hit a three, followed by a three from Corbin Beal. Add a final point from Cross' free-throw and that totals Grove's points in the first quarter. The Ridgerunners trailed 10-9.

In the second, Grove continued to spread the points around, with the lead changing hands six times in the span of four minutes. At the end of the half, Grove still trailed 29-23.

The third is where the Warriors pulled away. In just three and a half minutes, Glenpool had scored 16 points. The Ridgerunner defense stepped up, holding the Warriors scoreless the rest of the quarter, but the damage was done. Glenpool led 45-34 at the end of the third.

In the fourth, Beal hit three 15-foot jumpers to rally the team. The Warriors battled and utilized their 6'7" post to score 10 points, winning the game 63-49.

Cross led the Ridgerunners in scoring with 16, followed by Beal with 11, Hank Hacker with 6, Greg McCurdy with 5 and Colin Rowton and Hogan Hacker, both with 4.

Isaac Tiger led the Warriors with 21, followed by center Grayden Baker with 18, Jimauri Bradford with 8, Avery Cook with 5, Dalton McGee and E. Mosquito with 4 each and T. Overton with 3.

Speedster Emmanuel Crawford started the game, but ended up in foul trouble early, limiting his contributions. The gym was filled with cheers from the Glenpool girls team, who managed to produce a volume that outdid the Grove cheerleaders, student section and fans across the gym.

Grove will host Claremore on Tuesday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m.
