On Friday and Saturday, January 10-11, the Grove wrestling team tested their grit in Cushing.

Jaydale Whitlock and Gage Gates both made it to the podium; Whitlock placing fifth after his first losses of the season and Gates finishing in fourth overall.

"Without a doubt The Cushing Tiger Invitational was the toughest tournament Grove will see this year. That includes Conference, Regionals and State. Grove had two placers in this tournament, which is a great accomplishment for them, and we’re very proud of them," said Grove Wrestling Booster Club President Ruben Hernandez.

"There were State Champion teams from Oklahoma and Texas at this tournament, as well as teams from Arkansas Out of 41 teams, Grove placed 21. It was a tough tournament for our wrestlers, but they gained valuable experience to use for the rest of the season," said Hernandez.

The wrestling team will be busy again this week with two duals. On Tuesday, January 14, the Ridgerunners will host Pryor and then will hit the road against Bishop Kelley on Thursday, January 16.

The middle school team will wrestle against Pryor on Tuesday, January 14 at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity team at 7 p.m.
