“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Ben Franklin

It’s that time of year to think about boat maintenance even if you plan to use it this winter. Pumps, fuel, lower unit grease, batteries, and trailer tires should all be inspected and maintained as necessary. You’ll be happy you did next spring.

We had spectacular fishing trips last week. Gary McDaniels with Get Hooked Guide Service took us out for paddle fish and the boat caught its limit of 3, all of which were released. Bass fishing was also good using spinner baits shallow mid to lower lake. The crappie continue to bite using minnows, but it’s softer and the fish have moved deeper, 10-20’ is about right.

Grand lake water temperature before the cold weather averaged 55 degrees. Level is still around 745’ which surprises me, but I like it. Color varies on location, and ranges from chocolate milk to generally clear. Move until you find your preference.

Until next time, keep your bait in the water. Clint Baranowski
