This week's Hero of the Game is Darrell Mastin.
Mastin, who passed away suddenly in September, was a Major in the United States Air Force and a loved member of the community. Mastin attended the United States Air Force Academy, where he lettered in football for three years.
Mastin took part in missile launch training at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, was deputy crew commander, instructor, combat crew commander and wing nuclear safety officer at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota, was the head football coach at the Air Force Academy Preparatory School, taught humanities and english at the United States Air Force Academy, was named 1985 Outstanding Military Educator, taught weight training and unarmed combat at the Air Force Academy and was the defensive line coach for the 1990 Liberty Bowl Champion Air Force Falcons Football team.
Additionally, Mastin taught english and humanities and was the head football coach at Grove High School, where he was named Verdigris Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 1997 and his team made the playoffs in 1996. Mastin was also the Voice of the Ridgerunners on KGVE for 19 years and was a state delegate for Delaware County Republicans, board member for the Heavenly Angels House and organized Grove's Annual Independence Day Celebration.
