The Ridgerunners have won their first road game.
The well matched teams had a very closely played first half, but Grove's defense would hold the Tigers' offense to zero points while scoring two touchdowns to win the game.
Grove 20, Cleveland 14
The Tigers struck first, scoring on a 20 yard pass from Ben Ward to Justin Keeler. Five minutes later, Grove tied the game with an 8 yard pass from freshman Carson Trimble to senior Anthony Lucky.
The lone touchdown in the second quarter was a 10 yard pass from Cleveland's Ward to Noah Townley. This made the halftime score 14-7, Cleveland.
Grove scored on a two yard run from Kadian Forbis in the third, to tie the game at 14.
The Ridgerunner's final touchdown was a doozy. Under the two minute warning, freshman Emmanuel Crawford broke free and scored after rushing 75 yards. The point after failed, leaving the game with a 20-14 score.
Grove had 231 rushing yards and 19 passing yards for a total of 250 offensive yards. The Tigers had 117 rushing yards and 119 passing yards for a total of 236 offensive yards. The Ridgerunners had four penalties for 35 yards and Cleveland had eight for 61 yards.
Trimble was 2-5 from the pocket with one touchdown.
Forbis had 21 carries for 103 yards and one touchdown. Crawford had nine carries for 104 yards and one touchdown. Matt Bush had four carries for 25 yards and Trimble had six carries for -1 yard.
Lucky had one reception for eight yards and a touchdown. Hank Hacker had one reception for 11 yards.
Grove will be at home this week, hosting the 4-4 Oologah Mustangs on Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m.
