Week eight's matchup features the Grove Ridgerunners against the Cleveland Tigers.
The Tigers have a 5-2 record, starting the season with wins over Glenpool (34-12) and Manifold (20-13) and a 20-19 loss to Hominy. In district play, the Tigers are 3-1, besting Oologah (34-31), McLain (41-20) and Catoosa (21-7), but falling to Bristow (36-5). Cleveland has scored 174 points this season and held their opponents to 139.
Junior quarterback Ben Ward (20) has played all seven games and has completed 58 or 118 passes for 886 yards and 10 touchdowns. Ward has also rushed 105 times for 598 yards and seven touchdowns.
Joining Ward in the backfield is junior running back Asher Brewer. Brewer has only played in five games, but has 99 carries for 688 yards and seven touchdowns.
Ward has three 'go-to' receivers: Noah Townley (2), Tristan Jackson (4) and Kegan Chapman (25). Chapman, a senior, has played in six games, catching 17 passes for 278 yards and five touchdowns. Junior Jackson has played in five games, catching 11 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown. Townley, a sophomore, has played in six games and caught 16 passes for 352 yards and four touchdowns.
Grove has a 2-5 record and is 1-3 in district play. The Ridgerunners have scored 137 points during the season, but have allowed 205 points to be scored. Grove is the underdogs, but have a solid run defense who has made several successful goal line and fourth down stands.
