The Lady Red softball team traveled to Bartlesville on Thursday to take on the Lady Bruins in a non-district game. The Lady Bruins were celebrating their seniors for their final home game and senior night. The Lady Red were unable to get a victory falling 2-1.
Bartlesville 2, Grove 1
Laken Malone started the game for Grove and gave up two runs, only one of which was earned. That earned run came in the first inning when Bartlesville blooped a single to left with two outs. The following batter hit a line drive that skipped into the left field corner allowing the runner to score from first.
The Lady Red came back in the top of the third inning to tie the game. With one out, Ava Sarwinski roped a double into the right center field gap. Sarwinski stole third a few pitches later right before Mikalle Pair hit a deep fly ball to center field to score the tying run. Sarwinski’s double ended up being the only hit the Lady Red recorded on the day.
The game remained tied until the Lady Bruins were able to score a run on an error in the bottom of the fifth inning. That proved to be the difference as the Lady Red lost 2-1.
The Lady Red are 23-8 on the season and Grove will now head into the Regional playoffs at Skiatook on on Tuesday, October 8. The tournament has been moved up to Tuesday and Wednesday due to inclement weather. Game times remain the same. The game is scheduled to be played at 2 p.m., with the loser immediately playing an elimination game and the winner playing later in the evening.
Lady Red senior Mikalle Pair also announced her commitment to Independence Community College. Pair chose Independence over Fort Scott and Coffeyville. Pair will have a signing ceremony later in the year after November 1 when seniors are officially able to sign a National Letter of Intent.
