“Fishing is always an interesting challenge of where and how.”

Grand Lake is a spectacular fishery, and the City of Grove has just the right facility to handle any tournament event. Last week Anglers In Action drew 100 boats, and was won by Terry Thomas and Wayne Fowler with a weight of 19.79 lbs and a big bass going 6.1. The competitors I talked to told me their fish were caught later in the day, very shallow, and on a variety of lures. A spinner bait was a good choice followed by a soft plastic. Remember, however, the water was up last week.

This week Grove will host the FLW Costa series, a national event postponed from earlier in the year, and the Skeeter XFL, both out of Wolf Creek Park. Weigh ins for the events will begin around 3:00 PM.

We had some great black and white bass trips last week. The water is much clearer south even after the rain and higher lake levels, and lake temperatures are in the upper 70’s. The blacks were primarily caught on Sooner Run Biffle Bugs on windy points and whites behind the islands. I ran into Rusty Prichert (Pricherts Guide Service) the other day and he was cleaning some good crappie. He told me he was using minnows.

Until next time, keep your bait in the water. Clint Baranowski
