On Monday, September 23, the Lady Red softball team celebrated it’s three seniors after an impressive shutout win over the Vinita Lady Hornets.

After a quiet first inning, the Lady Red got three quick outs on the Lady Hornets to get into the batter’s box. Senior Anastasia Pace was walked and took her base. One out later, Pace was still at first and Sage Jackson was at bat. Jackson bunted the ball and made it to first, pushing Pace to second. Emily Blaine hit a single and reached first on an error by the shortstop to load the bases. Ava Sarwinski hit a fly ball into centerfield, which was caught, but gave Pace time to score the first run. Blaine stole second and Jackson stole home. The inning ended with Grove leading 2-0.
The Lady Red did their jobs and got another three quick outs to get back on offense.
Lauren Outhier hit a single into left field to get on base. Senior Mikalle Pair hit a sacrifice bunt, which moved Outhier to second. Senior Elizabeth Cash was up at bat. Outhier stole third and scored during an error by the third baseman and Cash was walked. Laken Malone hit a single, pushing Cash to second. Pace was back at bat and Cash advanced to third on an error. Pace bunted, pushing Malone’s courtesy runner, Kaylee Shepherd, to second and loading the bases. Dawn Blake hit a grounder and gave Cash time to score.
With the bases loaded, Jackson was at bat. Jackson was out on the hit and Shepherd was tagged out at home.
The Lady Red had runners on second and third. Blaine hit a grounder and reached first on an error by the third baseman. Pace scored and Blake scored. Jackson moved to third. Sarwinski was walked, and again the bases were loaded. Outhier was walked, forcing Jackson across home for another Grove run. Pair hit a line drive into right field and both Blaine and Sarwinski scored.
The Lady Red ended the inning, 9-0.
The final run of the game was scored by Sarwinski, who was walked, pushed to second by Outhier and batted in on Pair’s line drive double. The Lady Red won the game 10-0.
Grove was scheduled to play another game on Tuesday, September 24 in Jay, but the game was cancelled due to rain. The Lady Red hosted Claremore Sequoyah on Thursday, September 26 and will be on the road at Webb City on Monday, September 30.
