Colcord Hornets track and field team are making their mark, literally running away with wins at the Lucky 7 Conference Track Meet in Miami on April 24.

The Colcord middle school took first place as a team and conference champions, with Wyandotte 2nd and Ketchum 3rd.

Though the high school didn’t finish first as a team,(Commerce was 1st, Ketchum 2nd and Colcord 3rd) many of the boys did.

The Lucky 7 Conference had 10 schools competing: Colcord, Ketchum, Afton, Wyandotte, Fairland, Bluejacket, Welch, Quapaw, Foyil and Commerce.

The competition was fierce and required a lot of stamina.

Coach Austin Martin “couldn’t be prouder of what the kids accomplished” as he related the details of the how Colcord competed.

Obviously, having the middle school come in first place overall as a team against nine other teams was a real accomplishment.

Martin said “the team has really worked hard and put their all into the competition.”

Here’s how the stats broke down for the middle school.

Shot Put – 2nd place Eyan Williams, 3rd place Caleb Daugherty

400 M Relay – 1st place (conference champions) Asaskey Pendry, Manuel Bocanegra, Gabe Winfield and Tanner Reva.

400 M Dash – 1st place Dameon Martin (conference champion)

800 M Relay – 1st place (conference champions) Asaskey Pendry, Kevin Summerfield and Tanner Reva.

100 M Dash – 2 place Dameon Martin

200 M Dash – 2nd place Dameon Martin

800 M – 2nd place Gabe Winfield

300 M Hurdles – 3rd place Eyan Williams

1600 M – 3rd place Noah Shipp

1600 M Relay – 2nd place Tanner Revas, Kevin Summerfield, Manuel Bocanegra and Gabe Winfield.

With all the first place and second place winners in so many categories, it is clear why the Colcord middle school took conference champion honors.

Yet, Colcord high school won its fair share of first and seconds, and here’s how the stats broke down for the high school.

Shot Put – 1st place Abran Still

400 M Relay – Stormy Odle, Blake Gonzales, Raven Difrancisco and Reece Beachamp.

400 M Dash – 3rd place Aidan Parker

800 M Relay – 2nd place Stormy Odle, Blake Gonzales, Raven Difrancisco and Reece Beachamp.

100 M Dash – 1st place Blake Gonzales

300 M Hurdles – 2nd place Reece Beachamp

200 M Dash – 2nd place Blake Gonzales

400 M Dash – 3rd place Aidan Parker

Colcord is a team to be reckoned with for the remainder of this year and one to be reckoned with into the next few years, as the middle school participants will be around for a while.

Many of the track team also play football and that should translate into a very fast team on the gridiron for Colcord.

The Hornets have added speed along with their sting.
