Dixie Smith, who has served as the Delaware County Election secretary since 2006, will be honored on Friday, April 26, with a come-and-go retirement party.
The event is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, at the election board office at 225 South Fifth Street, in Jay.
Smith, who joined the election board as a clerk in 2003, working with then election board secretary Earlene Bradford.
Prior to joining the election board, Smith and her husband, Charles, owned and operated Charles Smith Body Shop for 30 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1999.
She is a member of the Jay Lions Club, the Delaware County Community Sentencing Board for District 13, and Youth Encouragement.
A native of Gravette, Arkansas, Smith moved to the Colcord area following her marriage to Charles. The couple have been married for 53 years.
The couple have two adult children: Ken and his wife, Sue, have two children: Austin and Jessica; while daughter Alicia McLain has two children: Maverick and Maya.
Smith's last election will be the Jay School Bond election, set for Tuesday, May 14. Her clerk, Crystal January will assume the role of election secretary on June 1.
