More than 162 veterans and their family members took part in the fourth annual Veterans Appreciation Day on Saturday, April 13, at Foundation Free Will Baptist Church.

The free event was designed to recognize veterans, thanking them for their service. Lunch was provided, as well as entertainment for adults and children alike.

Jon Arthur, organizer of the event, said more than 50 volunteers from the church - including students through adults - helped put on the event.

During the day, three veterans received patriotic quilts made by women of the church, and others received a variety of door prizes provided by local businesses.

Arthur said 32 businesses in the Grove/Grand Lake area helped sponsor the event.

"This was simply about honoring veterans," Arthur said. "We didn't have speakers this year. We just wanted to honor the veterans and tell them how much we appreciate them and their service.

"I just know a lot of Vietnam Veterans did not get any thank yous when they got back. So this is a way our church members can say thank you."

Foundation Free Will Baptist Church is located two miles north of Sail Boat Bridge on Highway 59.
