Ruth Lemaster, age 91, of Grove passed way Monday, April 1, 2019 surrounded by her family at Grand Lake Villa.  

Ruth was born on September 4, 1927 to Denver and Beatrice (Sixkiller) Murray in Grove, Oklahoma, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1945.

After high school Ruth moved to Tulsa, where she began working at Western Union. A few months later, the company was recruiting for a position in California and she readily signed on. 

While in California, Ruth met a sailor named James Lemaster.  On May 7, 1946 the couple were married and made their home in Amarillo, Texas.

Throughout their marriage they lived all over the United States and finally settled in Choctaw, Oklahoma, where Ruth worked for many years until retiring in 1997.

After retiring, the couple returned to Ruth’s roots in Grove, where they were members of the Butler Baptist Church.  

Ruth was never one to sit idle, she joined the Silver Hair Legislators and was an ombudsman with Grand Gateway and faithfully visited the nursing home patients.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and one son-in-law.

Left to cherish her memory: husband of 72 years, James Lemaster of the home; children: James D. Lemaster and wife, Tommie of Moore, Oklahoma, Gerald Lemaster and wife, Elizabeth of Grove, Oklahoma and Theda Adkisson of Choctaw, Oklahoma, six grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great grandchild, many loving nieces & nephews.  

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Nichols Stephens Funeral & Cremation Services.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2019 at Butler Baptist Church. Burial at Butler Cemetery.
