The Lady Red are now 19-3 after beating Miami 76-30 on Friday, Feb. 15, in the district game of the Oklahoma State Playoffs.
They will face Holland Hall at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb.21. in the first game of the regional tournament in Catoosa. Holland Hall has a record of 20-4 and is ranked #9 in the Class 4A state rankings.
The game against Miami got off to a fast start with the Lady Red winning the tip. Ten seconds later Macee Barnes caught a pass from Elizabeth Cash and nailed the first shot of the game. A three-pointer giving the Lady Red a 3-0 lead.
Miami was able to put back an offensive rebound for two points before Cash got the next basket for the Lady Red. After some quick passing that took the ball all the way around the floor, she was able to get underneath the Miami defense for a block shot and two points and a 5-2 lead.
The Lady Red pushed off a missed three-pointer from Miami and Mikalle Pair found Barnes for another three-pointer and an 8-2 lead.
Immediately after, Barnes stole the centering pass against the Miami press break, found Jaden Redus who sent a pass across the lane to Rory Geer. Geer made the shot for a 10-2 Lady Red lead.
Another quick steal and two free throws from Geer and the Lady Red were on their way to the route. The score was 24-10 in favor of the Lady Red at the end of the first quarter.
“We were able to get up quick,” Lady Red head coach Richard Bassett said. “Our girls came out quick and really set the tone. I’m proud of them. We played really well. I hope we can keep some of that momentum going.”
Things continued the same way starting the second quarter when Geer stole a reversal pass and took it the length of the floor for two more Grove points.
Geer got two more points on an offensive rebound and put back before she hit a three-pointer on the next possession. Cash got the next two points and the Lady Red just continued to role. The score at halftime was 50-18 in favor of Grove.
The Lady Red shot 43.8 percent while Miami shot 29.0 percent. Grove added 7 made three-pointers in 13 attempts to just 3 made three-pointers in 15 attempts for Miami.
The Lady Red scored 42 points in the paint and outrebounded Miami 48-14. They had 18 assists and 17 steals forcing 27 Miami turnovers.
Twelve Lady Red players saw minutes in the game and all 12 scored.
Geer had 27 points to lead the Lady Red in scoring. Geer also had 8 rebounds and 2 steals.
Pair had 12 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the Lady Red in those two categories. She added 5 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
Barnes added 20 points herself and lead the team with 7 steals while grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists.
Cash had 6 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot.
Jaden Redus had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
Kolby Boyett had 3 points and 1 rebound.
Dawn Blake had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 blocked shot.
Teagan Dixon had 2 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist.
Anna Bacon had 2 points and 5 rebounds.
Emily Blaine had 2 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Elyssa Teel had 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Megan Gibbs had 1 point, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal.
Before the Regional playoff game against Holland Hall, the Lady Red have one more regular season game against Skiatook.
They have beat Skiatook twice already this season with a combined score of 123-60. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night but with inclement weather expected to move in Tuesday afternoon, the game has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 18, to ensure safe travel. Results of the game were unknown as of press time.
