James R. Collins, age 88, of Grove, Okla. passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Legacy Living in Baxter Spring, Kan.

James was born on April 19, 1930 to Lewis and Juanita (Helms) Collins in Afton, Okla., where he grew up and attended school. In 1951, he entered the U.S. Army and proudly served as a Frontline Combat Medic during the Korean War.

On October 18, 1952, James married Ramona Wadley, in Afton, Okla. and the couple made their home in the Tulsa area. James was a welder by trade and a proud member of the Pipefitters Union for over 50 years. In 2009, the couple moved to Grove and they were members of the Carter Baptist Church in Afton, Okla.

James was a devoted husband to his wife, Ramona, for 65 years. He was a hard working, family man that never missed an opportunity to be the life of the party. He was a guitarist, singer and an avid motorcycle rider, making many cross country trips well up into his 70’s. James had a stubborn streak and could be ornery at times, but under it all he had a heart of gold.

James is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ramona Collins and first born daughter, Denise Lyn Hix.

Left to cherish his memory: daughters, Jamie Luker of Coweta, Okla. and Felisa Cox and husband, David, of Miami, Okla.; brother, Duane Collins and wife, Peggy, of Bixby, Okla., nine grandchildren and  13 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Trinity Baptist Church in Afton, Okla. James’ nephew, Retired Lt. Colonel Don Wadley will officiate.
