The former Hickory Grove Fire Chief accused of stealing over $170,000 from the rural fire department waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

William Ray “Billy” Moore appeared in Delaware County District Court on Friday, Nov. 30.

He is accused of stealing $176,263.64, according to an arrest affidavit. Part of the stolen money was traced to a fire department’s credit card.

A forensic accounting of the department’s funds showed from Feb. 2, 2017 to Nov. 30, 2017, Moore charged $42,100 on the fire department’s credit card. Moore allegedly purchased furniture, a television, sporting equipment and clothing.

This is not the first time Moore has faced criminal charges.

In 2008, Moore, then the Fairland Police Chief, was charged after a surveillance video showed him passing four counterfeit $100 bills at the Vinita Walmart.

He plead guilty in 2009 and was ordered to serve a one month federal prison sentence, and ordered to pay $400 restitution to Walmart.
