Officials with Grand River Abstract and Title Company celebrated the company's 50 years in business Thursday, Nov. 15, with an open house at the Grove location.
It was standing room only during the evening as business associates and friend dropped in to congratulate Beverly Jones on the landmark occasion.
Jones and her daughters were the quintessential hosts as guests kept flowing in during the evening.
Jones and her husband, Stan, purchased the business in 1968, from Floyd and Margaret Hanes, right after Stan got out of the Air Force.
They began with just four employees and now employ approximately 40 people, depending on the time of year.
After Stan's death in 2008, at the age of 64, the couple's daughter Laura Dishman began assisting her mother in running the company.
Though the company began in Jay, they now have locations in Grove and Langley, with Jay serving as a “production” location for the other two locations.
The celebration included catered food, drinks, a live band and gift bags.
One didn’t have to go inside to know the turnout was big; the shopping center parking lot was bulging at the seams as people looked for parking during the open house.
It is a milestone for any business to make a 50 year anniversary and it is especially great to have it be a local business.
Congratulations to Grand River Abstract and Title Company on the 50th anniversary.
