The spouses of Vietnam veterans will be honored at the American Legion this weekend in Jay with a United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration.

The event, set for 1 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 27, takes place at the American Legion Post 195, in Jay.

"It is time to recognize surviving spouses of Vietnam veterans for the sacrifices they have made, this group needs to be honored," explained Post Commander Robert Lawson. "You know that Vietnam veterans were not welcomed back home then and it is time we honor them and their spouses. They need to be honored, too."

A personalized certificate and a pin will be presented to each spouse at the event.

Currently, 24 spouses have been identified, but Lawson said they American Legion members looking for more spouses that should be recognized.

This is the 14th event that the Legion has done.

Congress has appropriated funds for the pins used for honoring this group.

Other groups so honored were Former, Living American Military POW; Unaccounted For; In Memory Of; and Deceased Vietnam Veteran's Surviving Spouse.
