A former female Delaware County detention officer pleaded guilty to raping a prisoner and is set for sentencing in November.
Christina Balcom, 27, of Disney appeared in Delaware County District Court on Thursday, Aug. 16, before Delaware County District Judge Robert Haney on a charge of second-degree rape.
Balcom, who was seen whipping her eyes after entering the plea, is to return to court on Nov. 7 to be sentenced, Haney also ordered a pre-sentence investigation report.
The former officer, confessed to a consensual sexual encounter with an inmate on Aug. 13, 2016 and was dismissed from her position two days later, according to an arrest affidavit.
Balcom was walking the inmate back to the current Delaware County jail from the former jail building avoiding surveillance cameras when the two engaged in kissing, which escalated to a sexual encounter.
The inmate denied the act and then later recanted and told investigators he felt pressured into having sex with Balcom.
Balcom was dismissed from the Delaware County Sheriff's Department on Aug. 15, 2016, once the incident came to light.
The charge of rape was applicable in this case, according to state statutes quoted in the 2016 arrest warrant for Balcom because the "victim is in legal custody and supervision of county jail and engages in sexual intercourse with an employee of the county that exercises authority over the victim."
