Avanell (Woods) Hughes, 88, lifetime resident of Jay, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Grandwood Assisted Living Center in Grove.
Avanell was born on Jan. 2, 1930, she was the loving daughter of Charles W. and Sarah (Pitts) Woods.
She was united in marriage to Everett (Bill) Hughes on May 29, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas.
Avanell earned her associates degree from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and was a Licensed Practical Nurse. Avanell was a charter member of the Grove Nazarene Church. She enjoyed tending to her garden and spending time with her precious grandchildren.
Avanell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Billy V. Hughes, granddaughter Hailey Hughes and grandson Russell Crowder.
She is survived by her son Monty Hughes of Jay, Oklahoma and Vickie Sue Rambo and husband Bill of Grove, Oklahoma, daughter in-law Deleen Hughes of Grove.
She was blessed with four grandchildren: Tammy Chailer, Wendy Davis, Stoney Crowder and Lance Crowder and eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services will take place at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Grove with Chaplain John Blackwell officiating.
