Rain hampered play in the Lucky 7 Conference baseball tournament a year ago and the forecast for this year isn’t much more promising.

The tournament, which had run a week in 2017 with first-round games played at four satellite sites, has been compacted to a three-day event with all 18 games played at Quapaw this year.

Action starts Thursday, March 29.

Rain is expected to begin and continue off and on through the week.

The National Weather Service’s Tulsa office says between 3 to 5 inches is expected.

Wyandotte beat Ketchum 5-3 in a 2017 championship game that wasn’t played until April 15 because of the weather.

The third-place game between Afton and Quapaw was cancelled.

With the departure of Oklahoma Union from the conference, that left 10 teams, so there will be two play-in games and four quarterfinal games Thursday.

Bluejacket (2-7) faces Foyil (2-8) at 10 a.m. and Welch (4-9) meets Colcord (0-6) at 4 p.m. in the opening round contests.

Quarterfinal games include 2A No. 15 Commerce (6-1) vs. Afton (4-0), noon; the Bluejacket-Foyil winner meets 2A No. 7 Ketchum (9-0) at 2 p.m.; Quapaw (3-4) and Fairland (5-3) tangle at 4 p.m. and 2A No. 10 Wyandotte (6-2) has been paired against the Welch-Colcord winner at 8 p.m.

Four consolation side games will be played Friday as well as the two semifinal games at 6 and 8 p.m.

The ninth-place game will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by the seventh-place game at noon, the fifth-place game at 2 p.m. and the third-place game at 4 p.m.

The championship will be decided at 6 p.m. Saturday.
