The Jay Bulldogs won two back to back victories against Catoosa 48-44 and at Grove 58-49 bringing the Bulldogs season record to 16-3.


Their first game of the two-night series was at home against Catoosa (15-6) Friday, Feb. 2 during which Jay took an early lead in the first quarter of play 17-9.

The Bulldogs were able to maintain the lead before the half with Catoosa closing by two points ending the half 26-20.

After the break at the half Jay was just able to maintain their lead in the third quarter of play with both teams scoring 12 points.

Catoosa was able to continue to close with the Bulldogs lead but ran out of play time trailing at the end of the game, giving Jay the lead 48-44.

Top shooters for the game against Catoosa were Garrett Sweeney who put 15 points on the board followed by Daylon Simpson with 14 points.

Overall the team shot 61 percent at the free throw line dropping 11 of 18 buckets.


The Bulldogs hit the road for their big rivalry game against Grove (5-13) on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The game started off slow for the Bulldogs trailing the Ridgerunners 5-6 by the end of the first quarter of play.

Jay picked up the pace in the second quarter and pulled away with a strong lead of 19-14 by the break at the half.

After returning to the court the Bulldogs broadened their lead over the Ridgerunners 34-25.

During the last eight minutes of play the game was close with the Ridgerunners closing the gap to within two points halfway through the quarter.

The Bulldogs were able to finish strong even after Grove outscored them in the final quarter of play with a win of 56-49.

Jay trailed in shooting except in free throws which gave them the game against Grove.

The Bulldogs shot and effective field goal percentage of 35 which takes into account the different weight of both two and three point shots.

They make 13/35 for their two point field goals and put 3/15 buckets up for three points.

The Bulldogs made their extra points in free throws shooting an impressive 91.3 percent at the line or 21/23 of their shots.

Garrett Sweeney brought in a total of 20 points for the Bulldogs and went 10/11 at the line contributing to the win.

Chase Brock and Stormy Taylor put up a total of 13 and 10 points respectively and both shot 100 percent at the line.

The Bulldogs played against Miami on Tuesday, Feb. 6 but the score was unavailable at print time.

Their next game will be against Locust Grove at home on Friday, Feb. 9 with their final game against Kansas at home which will also be Senior night.
