The Lady Ridgerunners beat the Lady Zebra’s 56-42 in their first game back from the Christmas break on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

The two teams went back and forth on the score board during the first quarter of play in Claremore as the Lady Ridgerunners fought to find a rhythm.

By the end of the first quarter Grove took a slight lead over Claremore 9-7 after trailing behind midway through the quarter.

The girls picked up the pace in the second quarter outscoring the Lady Zebras by 5 before the half going into the break leading 25-18.

Keeping the pressure on the Lady Zebra’s after the break the Lady Ridgerunners continued to outscore their opponent in the third quarter with a 44-33 lead.

With the final win at 56-42 it brings the Lady Ridgerunners to 8-1 in their season and a winning streak of seven games.

The Lady Ridgerunners had a strong showing against Claremore shooting above their season average in most aspects of the game.

Most notable was shooting 57.1 percent of their three-point shots which is well over their season average of 25 percent.

Mikalle Pair had her best game of the season putting 12 points on the board for the Lady Ridgerunners.

Pair also put 2/2 in the bucket beyond the three-point line and contributed significantly to the team during her 13 minutes of play time.

Rory Geer lead the team in points with a total of 18 added to the scoreboard and went 4/6 at the line.

Macee Barnes put another 12 points up and shot 2/5 at the line for the night.

Jaden Redus contributed a strong defense for the girls with four defensive rebounds and three assists, while Cheyenne Tanner filled her role as a strong post player scoring a total of six for the girls.

The Lady Ridgerunners had a strong showing for the night with their win after a three week break and facing a difficult game on the road.

The Grove girls will be facing off against Coweta Friday Jan 12 at 6 p.m. for their first home game after returning to play.

Coweta who is coached by Brad Crace and is currently 6-4 in their season having recently lost to Pryor 46-67.

Unlike Grove the girls from Coweta have played seven of their games since after Christmas which could be factor in Friday’s game.

The Lady Ridgerunners did win against Pryor 59-44 on Dec 19 but according to Coach Richard Bassett, “There are two seasons before the break and after the break.”
