Jay cross-country teams traveled to Claremore Sequoyah for their first meet of the season, the results of which left coach Sheila Sturges coming away excited for the season.

“I had some surprises today, especially with the boys," Sturges said. "[I] had a couple that stepped up and ran today that I may not have been expecting.”

Freshman LRay Kirk finished ninth in the ninth and 10th grade boys division with sophomore Gage Bishop coming in 11th and freshman Jayden Mayberry 14th. Sophomore Leo Feregrino was 16th with sophomores Caleb Buzzard, 23rd, Steen Lane 26th and Victor Pichardo 27th. Freshman Joseph Greaves also ran for Jay.

In the boys 11th and 12th grade division junior Lewis Moulton was 11th, junior Jett Gibe 17th, senior Jaden Shotpouch 18th and Bailey Allen 20th.

Seniors Daryn Smith and Trevor Buck were 27th and 31st while Caleb Meeker and Wyatt Johnson also ran for the Bulldogs.

In the girls division 11th and 12th grade junior Jacklynn Duncan finished in fifth place and fellow junior Bailee Bishop 17th.

Sophomore Aryn Wilson ran in the ninth and 10th girls division finishing in 10th place, freshman Lexi Farley 17th and freshman Elizabeth Hodge 19th.

Carime Johnson also ran for Jay in the ninth and 10th division.

Jacie Moffett was ninth in the middle school division for the Lady Bulldogs while Kyleigh Buzzard was 14th, Aliah Barrows 17th and Marsis Foreman 18th.

Alana Shotpouch, Juliah Johnson, Gracie Greer, Laney Callihan and Aaliyah Thao also ran in the junior girls division for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the junior high boys Elijah Coatney was fifth for Jay while Chaoyoung Thao, Ashton Sharp, Austin Vang and Rohland Summerfield also competed for the Bulldogs.
