Grove Senior Citizens’ Center will be hosting the 22nd annual city wide free Thanksgiving Dinner this Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 27.
The free holiday dinner is open to the entire community.
Approximately 500 people were fed last Thanksgiving Day, and the center is expecting 500-600 this year.
Cooks for the dinner will be Senior Center Head Cook Lisa Greenfeather, Andrea Perdue, and Pilar Hoche. The meal will be a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, consisting of turkey, cornbread/bread dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, hot rolls, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. The meal will be served by volunteers.
Home-delivered meals, for those who are physically unable to come into the center, will be delivered by the Grove Police Department and Grove Fire Department.
Although there is no charge for the meal, reservations need to be made.
Linda McAhren, manager of the Grove Senior Citizens’ Center, will be taking reservations for either an 11:30 or 12:30 seating.
Reservations can be made by calling the Grove Senior Center at 786-6310.
The dinner this year will be coordinated by McAhren and Debbie Hopkins, Area Manager of Encompass Home Health.
They are seeking donations from both individuals, and local and area businesses to fund the affair.
Anyone making a donation of $50 or more will be given a Certificate of Appreciation.
“Anyone making that large a donation needs to know that we and the people receiving this wonderful free meal, appreciates them,” Hopkins said.
“We wanted a way that merchants could show their customers that they appreciate their business and are using this free Thanksgiving dinner as a way to give back to the community,” McAhren added. “If it weren’t for all these generous people, there would be no free Thanksgiving dinner. This attitude of gratitude is what Thanksgiving is all about.”
Anyone making a donation by check should make it out to DOCS, Inc., which is a non-profit organization, and therefore tax deductible.
Donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Grove Senior Citizens’ Center, 145 E. O’Daniel Parkway, Grove, OK 74344.
