WELCH - Paige Hall had a career-best 23 points to help the Welch girls top Wyandotte 46-41 here Friday night.

Welch's boys, ranked 18th in Class A, wrapped up their regular season with a 53-25 victory in the boys' game.

"This was a pretty big one," Welch coach Shawn Goodwin said. "We played pretty well."

The victory was just the second in the last 10 meetings against Wyandotte for the Lady Wildcats. Their only other win in that stretch came on Jan. 4, 2011.

A 16-11 edge in the fourth quarter made the difference for Welch. The game was tied at 30-30 heading into the final stanza.

Welch grabbed an 11-9 lead in the first quarter and coasted into the break with a 21-20 edge. The Lady Bears created the tie with a 10-9 advantage in the third stanza.

Hall was the only player in double figures for Welch. Rachel Seigel had six points and Rylee Chenoweth, Megan Carpenter and Lacey Windle chipped in with five points each.

Peytience Logan had 10 points for the Lady Bears. Alex Lyons who suffered a knee injury in the third quarter, and Natalie Hofschulte scored seven each.

The Wildcats finished perfect in the Lucky 7 Conference at 12-0. They're 17-3 overall.

"In the first half, we played really well," Welch coach Josh Schertz said. "We couldn't have played any better. We played great defense, too. Our intensity and pressure were where we needed to be."

The Cats stretched a 16-4 first-quarter lead into a 36-8 halftime advantage. They were up 44-18 heading into the final stanza.

Austin Buchanan had 16 points and Jacob Mount added 13 for Welch.

Jacob Lux scored nine for the Bears.

Wyandotte travels to Afton on Tuesday while Welch is idle until the weekend, when it hosts a Class A district tournament.
