The Fairland High School powerlifting team captured the Class A Regional Championship for the second consecutive year over the weekend in Chandler.

Coach Chuck Preaus and his Fighting Owls had four lifters qualify for the state championship meet. That event takes place March 14th at McLoud.

Chuck Cassinelli, a senior in the 181 lbs class, qualified for state with a 500 lbs squat, a 520 lb deadlift, and a 285 lbs bench for a total of 1305 pounds. Cassinelliís squat lift was recognized as the outstanding lift for the lightweight classes. Cassinelli was declared regional champion for his weight division.

Junior Tony Short finished third in the 181 lbs class with a three lift total of 1195 lbs. Short did 430 lbs on the squat, 280 lbs on the bench, and 485 lbs on the deadlift.

Trent Ryan, a sophomore, took fifth place in the 145 lbs class with a three lift total of 875 lbs. Ryan lifted 315 lbs on the squat, 205 lbs on the bench, and 355 lbs on the deadlift.

Freshman Troy Jones rounded out the Fairland state qualifiers with a fifth place in the 132 lbs class with a three lift total of 840 lbs. Jones did 300 lbs on the squat, 165 lbs on the bench, and 375 lbs on the deadlift.

Also at the meet Colcordís Dustin Miers won the super heavyweight division and qualified for the state tournament. Miers did 600 lbs on the squat, 390 lbs on the bench, and 600 lbs on the deadlift for a total of 1590 lbs.
