GROVE HIGH SCHOOL GOLF REPORT
Two local businesses have donated funds for extra instruction for the Grove High School Golf Team with Gregg Compton and myself. We really tried to give them a good dose of the basics. Obviously, it will be up to the team members to practice what they have learned. Gregg and I both are very impressed with these kids. Thanks again to Becky Fields with First National Bank of Grove and Karen Kyman with Precision Communications-Grove. As a golf instructor and former coach at NEO (Miami) I want to share with my readers that the future for Grove High School Golf is extremely bright. We have the best nucleus and talent of any program in the state. I won’t apologize for putting the pressure on Coach Geer and Jones and the players; these coaches and kids are good!
The Grove boys played in their first tournament of 2011 at Cherry Hills in Tahlequah last Monday. Even though the team finished only one spot out of “the money” (fourth) they were in very stiff competition, including some higher class schools. Tyler Busch shot a 77 (tied for overall third), Trae Fairchild 87, Patrick Lippitt 89, Jared Perryman 98 and Mike Boone 104.
DORAL, Fla. (AP) — Nick Watney wound up in another duel at Doral, this one with a much sweeter ending. Watney poured in two key putts for par along the back nine of the Blue Monster on Sunday, then hit two fearless shots on the 18th and finished with a birdie for and a 5-under 67 to win the Cadillac Championship by two shots over Dustin Johnson. It was the third victory of Watney’s career, and by far the biggest.
ARE YOU FRUSTRATED BY YOUR GAME?
If so, please read this…GRAND LAKE GOLF SCHOOL is now the official “Fitter” for www.fitchip.com in this area. This is a new fitting system in which we can measure instantaneously if you have the right frequency shafts in your clubs. The inventor and developer proved to me that 60% of all golfers are playing with the wrong shaft frequency. Simplified, this just means you either get the clubface square back to the ball naturally or by force. Go to www.fitchip.com. Naturally is of course best. We offer a fitting and swing lesson for $50; If you replace and order your shafts at $45 each including grip, we credit the $50 to your purchase. Or, ask us about our demo plan. Call Steve at 918-257-4967.
GOLF TIP of the WEEK
Please ladies, don’t try to play with men’s clubs. The “Flex” is extremely different and actually will hurt your game and swing development. I give the same advice to seniors. They should pay a lot of attention to the flex that they are swinging. Otherwise, your tip of the week is to just get to the driving range as fast as you can and start hitting balls.
Good equipment will speed up your development as a player, just as bad equipment will delay improvement. I have created a set of clubs that are from the Alpha Golf Company.
These are for men and ladies. You can grow the set as you develop but for now they are everything a new player needs. More full sets are also available. Finally you can get quality at reasonable pricing. They include a $50 credit toward lessons.
$350 no Bag; $400 with Bag.
Call or email me and I’ll send you the info via email.
GOLF JOKE OF THE WEEK
From my friend Dick McQuary over at Patricia Island, Grove, OK
Dick got separated from his grandson recently at the supermarket.
The grandson did the right thing and approached a uniformed security guard and said, “I’ve lost my grandpa!”
“The guard asked, “What’s he like?”
The little tyke hesitated for a moment and then replied,
“Well he really likes to golf and he likes Jack Daniels and women with great figures.”
