The Grand Rapids Thunderhawk gymnastics team hosted its annual Grand Rapids Triangular Invitational at the Northern Pike Gymnastics facility.
The Thunderhawks put on an impressive display in earning the first place finish over Bemidji and Quad Cities.
The Thunderhawks finished first with a score of 133.75. Bemidji came in second place overall at 126.0 and in third place was Quad Cities with a score of 102.6.
“The girls had beautiful routines this evening,” Grand Rapids head coach Lori Carusiello said. “They are really starting to do those difficult moves that we have been working on to get ready for regions.”
Thunderhawk Danni Villeneuve won the all-around competition with a total score of 34.1. Shelli Wick was close behind with a score of 33.7 and following her was Whitney Detjen with a score of 32.95.
Villeneuve started the meet strong with a first place finish on the bars with a score of 8.6. Finishing in second place was Detjen earning a score of 8.0. Callie Schneider came in third with a 7.9 for Grand Rapids.
Villeneuve was the top finisher for Grand Rapids on the vault. Villeneuve earned a score of 8.6 on vault. Wick was right behind her with a score of 8.5. Detjen earned a score of 8.45 followed by Schneider with a score of 8.4 on vault.
Wick and Villeneuve shared the top spot on the beam with a score of 8.8. Schneider finished with a score of 8.45 on beam while Detjen finished with a score of 8.4. Kelsey Demianiuk earned a score of 7.6 on the beam.
Wick had the top performance for Grand Rapids on the floor with a score of 8.7. Villeneuve finished right behind with a score of 8.5. Detjen recorded a score of 8.3 on the floor and Taylor Maasch earned a score of 6.9.
The Thunderhawks competed in the Cambridge All-Around tournament on Saturday afternoon and return home for the final time on Friday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. at the Northern Pike Gymnastics Facility.
