Lady Red takes five of six at Sand Springs
The Grove Lady Red softball team continued their recent string of success by winning five games at the Sand Springs Tournament over the weekend.
On Friday GHS opened with a 6-2 win over 19th-ranked Norman North before dropping their second game to 17th-ranked Sapulpa. Both Sapulpa and Norman North are in Class 6A.
The Lady Red bounced back against the 18th-ranked team in 5A, the Bishop Kelley Lady Comets, winning by an 8-0 shutout.
On Saturday the Lady Red began their day nice and early with a matchup against 6A power Sand Springs. Starting pitcher Jessie Walker pitched her second shutout of the tournament as the Lady Red prevailed over the sixth-ranked Lady Sandites 1-0.
Grove then followed up with a 9-2 win over Tonkawa. In the medal round the Lady Red beat 15th-ranked Edmond Memorial 5-0.
Now 15-6 on the season, the Lady Red are scheduled to play a doubleheader against Locust Grove today beginning at 5 pm.
Grove cross-country finishes eighth at Edison meet
Ryan Wheatley’s 22nd place finish led the Grove Ridgerunners to an eighth place finish on Friday in a race held at Tulsa’ Chandler Park.
Wheatley finished the 5k race in 19:55.
For the Lady Red Blair Thomas finished in seventh place over, running the two-mile race in 13:48. Michaela Werner finished in 13th with a time of 14:15.
Softball districts announced
The pairings for the district round of the softball playoffs for Classes B-4A were announced by the OSSAA on Thursday.
Among area teams, the Jay Lady Bulldogs will host the Miami Lady Wardogs in Class 4A. In 3A the Kansas Lady Comets, ranked 11th in the latest coaches poll, will host the Westville Lady Yellowjackets.
In 2A Colcord will travel to Ketchum, while Commerce will host Quapaw and Fairland will host Wyandotte.
Realtors to host golf tourney
The 14th annual Northeast Oklahoma Board of Realtors Golf and Give Tournament will be held at Patricia Island Golf Club on October 6, 2010. The four-person scramble will tee off at 9:00 a.m.
The cost is $75 per person fee includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, continental breakfast and lunch after the tournament.
Prizes will be awarded in championship, A, and B flights. Limit of 25 teams.
All proceeds will go to organizations in Northeast Oklahoma in need.
Hole sponsors are also needed for the event. The $275 fee will include a professional sign with sponsor’s name, thank you announcements before, during and after the event, and various print and website advertising. Registration and payment must be received by September 23 to allow for the preparation of signs.
