I normally review more local venues. However, I recently played The Patriot Golf Course near Owasso last week and I feel compelled to urge everyone to go play this GEM. I went with a great group of guys from The Coves Golf Club in Duck Creek, hosted by Vinita’s Monty Hartley. (R.Thorton, R.Miller, Z.Hamilton, M.Rudolph, J.Turner, D.Brown, M.Lair, J.Gray, S.Pace, E.Shannon, C.Capps, D.Walker, H.Hartley, H.Harris, F.Kidd, D.Luke, M.Hartley, K.Kidd, S.Smiley, R.Bailey, J.Gottardi, J.Gottardi, C.Strickland and J.Strickland). This might be the best course I’ve ever played or even seen… and it is less than 90 miles from the Grand Lake Area. I highly recommend that you make arrangements to go play here. The first tee box is about 150 feet above the fairway. If you ever want to hit one of the really long drives here’s your chance. The drop alone adds 50 yards to your shot. You will ask yourself, “Am I really in Oklahoma?” This course is absolutely BEAUTIFUL.
This is the last week of July 2011. It is as hot and uncomfortable as I can remember. So, since we have lemons (weather), let’s make lemonade. The evenings are a great time to go practice and/or play. Ask your local golf venue how late you can go out. It is reasonable that they will accommodate later golf tee times due to the weather. I guarantee in three months (just 90 days) we will be missing the heat again….just like right now, we miss the cold.

NEW - SHAFT FLEX TECHNOLOGY -
“Helps the amateurs more than the pros!”
If you aren’t “SHAFT FLEX FITTED” you are at a disadvantage before you even tee up.
So, please read this…GRAND LAKE GOLF SCHOOL is now the official “Fitter” for www.fitchip.com in this area. This is a new fitting system in which we can measure instantaneously if you have the right frequency shafts in your clubs. The inventor and developer proved to me that 60 percent of all golfers are playing with the wrong shaft frequency. Simplified, this just means you either get the club face square back to the ball naturally or by force. Go to www.fitchip.com. Naturally is of course best. We offer a fitting and swing lesson for $50; If you replace and order your shafts at $45 each including grip, we credit the $50 to your purchase. Or, ask us about our demo plan. Call Steve at 918-257-4967.
I have a Ladies Only Clinic every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Patricia Island Golf Club and Estates. Gregg Compton assists me and we simply give you tips and suggestions while you hit balls on the driving range. The cost is $10 per person. Anyone can come from beginners to low handicappers and you do not have to be a member at Patricia.
GOLF TIP OF THE WEEK
How many of you miss those easy three to four foot putts? Let me ask you, “Do you practice them?” How can we expect a good result if we haven’t done at least a little work? I have repeatedly suggested and will continue to do so, practice three to four footers with your eyes closed; learn the feel of the mechanics of the putt. If these tips don’t help, call me at 918-257-4967 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org

JOKE OF THE WEEK
I did my friend Dan Kitowski over at Patricia Island (Grove) a favor recently and did not give him credit for one of his jokes that I included in this column. Nuff sed.
Now, for this week’s joke from my friend Suzanne Knott:
Ben Hogan’s advice for improving one’s golf score: “Get the ball closer to the cup!”
