Jason Sheffield, General Manager, “The long awaited opening of The Summit Restaurant in our incredible new clubhouse is finally here! We’re extremely grateful for the consistent support the community has shown Shangri-La through membership and the great deal of excitement about the direction the club is heading and the opening of our new facilities. Thank you again for your patience as we finished the job.”

Opening night will be July 14 and available to members only. For membership info call 918-257-4204. The new state of the art Pro Shop is already open and Head Pro Rob Yanovitch and his assistant Sean O’Grady and their staff are in place and ready to greet you.

Shangri-La Downs aka Friday Night Horse Race Results for July 8: Kenny Cole makes it two in a row. Can he complete the Triple Crown next week? Win-Kenny Cole, Place-Jason Benson, Show-Gary Anstine.

General Manager Andy Stewart has this place looking good and wants the public to come see. Contact Ileta Bray at 918-801-5912 for information on their membership as well as real estate over there.

Kevin Mallow has this nine-hole gem ready for you. Most reasonable green fees anywhere and the course is in good shape.

I played here recently and let me tell you something, this is a fun course that lets you score but challenges you too. The course is in excellent condition. Jim Gray and Zack Hamilton in the pro shop are always there with a welcoming hand. The Coves is in the middle of a membership drive with plenty of amenities worth looking in to. Contact the pro shop at 918-782-3220

“Helps the amateurs more than the pros!”

If you aren’t “SHAFT FLEX FITTED” you are at a disadvantage before you even tee up.

So, please read this…GRAND LAKE GOLF SCHOOL is now the official “Fitter” for in this area. This is a new fitting system in which we can measure instantaneously if you have the right frequency shafts in your clubs. The inventor and developer proved to me that 60 percent of all golfers are playing with the wrong shaft frequency. Simplified, this just means you either get the club face square back to the ball naturally or by force. Go to Naturally is of course best. We offer a fitting and swing lesson for $50. If you replace and order your shafts at $45 each including grip, we credit the $50 to your purchase. Or, ask us about our demo plan. Call me at 918-257-4967.

I have a Ladies Only Clinic every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Patricia Island Golf Club and Estates. Gregg Compton assists me and we simply give you tips and suggestions while you hit balls on the driving range. The cost is $10 per person. Anyone can come from beginners to low handicappers and you do not have to be a member at Patricia.

We’ll see if you really read these tips….. I have the best tip ever but you have to ask me or email me to get it this week. If these tips don’t help; call me at 918-257-4967 or email me at

I got criticized for a “LAME” joke last week by my friend Norman over on Monkey Island. Hope this is better and meets his expectations.

Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northeast Oklahoma when she saw an elderly woman walking on the side of the road. As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the woman if she would like a ride. With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car. Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

“What’s in the bag?” asked the old woman.

Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, “It’s a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband.”

The woman was silent for another moment or two.

Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said:

“Good trade.”

Thanx Steinkirchner
