GROVE – The Grove Ridgerunners had no trouble with Northwest Classen of Oklahoma City on the first day of their 5A Regional at the Grove Sports Complex Thursday.
The real story from Thursday was the weather, as rain, wind and cold temperatures meant that only three of a scheduled four games were completed.
In the day's first game the Pryor Tigers rallied from an early 5-1 deficit to defeat Collinsville 8-5. That was followed by the Ridgerunners' 16-1 win over NW Classen in the second game of the day.
The Ridgerunners scored 9 runs on seven hits in the first inning against the Knights then followed with five more in the second before pulling their starters. Kody Stephenson, Ty Phillips, Cordale Barton and Benny Steffenson all had two hits apiece.
Stephenson finished with four RBIs, hitting a two-run triple in his second at-bat of the first inning and adding a two-run single in the second inning.
Steffenson hit two triples, the second one a towering shot to left centerfield in the second inning that drove home Kaden Livermore and made the score 10-0.
The Knights got their only run in the top of the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough to keep the game from ending by the run rule.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Ridgerunners are scheduled to play Pryor at 2 p.m., followed by the loser of that game taking on Collinsville in an elimination game. The winner of the elimination game will then meet the winner of the Pryor/Grove game.
