The Grove Lady Ridgerunners may finally be getting some of the respect they deserve.

After finishing the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule with a 5-1 record, the Grove girls moved back into the latest rankings, coming in at 14 in Class 5A in this week's poll of the state's basketball coaches.

After winning the Hilldale Tournament in their first week of the season, the Lady Ridgerunners went 2-1 last week, blowing out Miami and Hilldale. Their lone loss of the season was a 48-46 overtime defeat at the hands of the Vinita Lady Hornets, who dropped from second to fourth in Class 4A.

Also in Class 4A, the Jay Lady Bulldogs are ranked 19th with a 4-4 record. Jay will finish their first semester schedule with a game against Locust Grove tonight at Bulldog Arena.

In Class 3A the Kansas Lady Comets kept their hold on the top spot, defeating their arch-rivals from Adair on Monday night to run their record to 6-0. The Lady Comets with take on Tulsa Washington, the sixth-ranked team in Class 6A, in the opening round of the Tournament of Champions on December 28.

The Colcord girls, despite defeating Class 3A ninth-ranked Verdigris last Friday, remained at 15 in Class 2A. The win over Verdigris was the second in as many weeks over top-10 opponents for the 6-1 Lady Hornets, who also defeated Oklahoma Union, currently ranked eighth in 2A, by a 56-38 score in the finals of the Afton Tournament.

The lone area boys team in the rankings, the Kansas Comets, sit in 18th in 3A with a 6-3 record.
