The Jay Lady Bulldogs swept all before them in 4A Regional Consolation play at Vinita over the weekend to lay claim to the Regional Consolation Championship and advance to the 4A Area Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs travel to Stillwater for a 1:30 PM date with Glenpool on Thursday.

Jay defeated Dewey 71-57 Thursday afternoon in the semi-finals and downed Inola 62-35 in the Championship game.

In Friday’s semi-final game against Dewey the Lady Bulldogs opened play with an eight-point streak on their way to a 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bulldoggers then put up a 20 point second period, including a 15-2 run, to take a halftime lead of 27-25.

The teams remained within two points of one another throughout the third quarter until the final few minutes when the Lady Bulldogs put up an eight point burst to carry a 45-39 lead into the fourth. From there Jay controlled the pace and added a 6-1 advantage over the last two minutes of the game to collect the win and advance to the finals.

Senior Taylor Raney was the high scorer with 19 points, sophomore Hannah Ritter scored 16 and junior Sam Robertson added 14. Senior Colby Morrow scored seven and Lauren Wilson placed nine points.

As in Friday’s semi-final game, the Lady Bulldogs opened play in Saturday’s final with another eight-point advance and a commanding end-of-first-quarter lead. Unlike the Lady ‘Doggers, however, the Lady Longhorns were never able to mount a comeback challenge. It wasn’t until half-way through the second quarter before Inola was able to break into double-digits on the scoreboard. For most of the game the Lady Bulldogs had more than double the points of the Lady ‘Horns. Through the second period to the end of the game Jay was able to put together four runs of six or more points, including a 10 point spell in the fourth.

Robertson was the high scorer against Inola with 20 points. Raney scored 12 and Ritter added 10. Morrow added nine points and Wilson added seven.

Glenpool lands in the Area Tournament fresh off a 66-34 loss to Perkins Saturday at Perkins.
